Welcome to Lily’s Mori.
This is a place to watch a small patch of land at the foot of a mountain slowly become a food forest — fruit trees, herbs, vegetables, and wild grasses, all growing together in layers.
Rather than a tidy field, it’s a forest a bit like a treasure hunt. I share the whole process here: the joy when something sprouts, and the moments I get lost along the way, too.
I grow with no fertilizer and no chemicals — a Japanese approach known as shizen-nōhō (natural farming) — treating neither weeds nor insects as enemies, believing that all life moves within one great circle, and nothing is wasted.
I started on my own, from nothing, and I’m having fun with it. It’s a slow forest that will take years to grow. So if you’d like, follow along — and someday, come visit.
About the one tending it
I’m Lily — just someone who loves plants.
I don’t know much. I simply touch the soil, marvel at each new sprout, get lost, and rejoice — and I write those days down here.
I don’t think it’s ever too late to begin.
“I’m too old now.” “I’m just one woman.” I didn’t want those to be my reasons not to try.
Building a forest from bare ground may take years. But that’s exactly why I start today.
If there’s a “someday I’d like to try” sleeping inside you too — I believe that seed can sprout, at any time.
